How do I lower the TTL values for all domains in plesk to make DNS propagation fast?
How do I lower the TTL values for all domains in plesk to make DNS propagation fast?
Solution
Lowering the TTL or time to live values for domains is a good idea. This will allow you to migrate a domain to a new IP address with minimal impact on the website hosted at that IP. Normally DNS zone files require 24 - 48 hours to refresh, but you can set the TTL to a value as low as 5 minutes.
To do this in plesk, access the psa database and issue the following sql command:
UPDATE dns_zone SET ttl_unit=1, ttl=300
This will set the ttl unit value to 1 second and the actual ttl value to 300 seconds or 5 minutes.
You must wait the full 48 hours for the original zones to refresh with this new zone before they will have the 5 minute ttl values.
Then you can use the plesk migration manager to move the domains to the new plesk server. The domains will then refresh with the default plesk ttl values.
